Use It or Lose It, the End of Year Budget Dilemma

budget-stock-e1416406289593With the end of 2015 approaching, you are no doubt starting to look at 2016, laying out your goals, the projects you need to start focusing on and then going through that annual rite of passage called “budgeting.”

If you’re like most of us, you manage your corporate budget very prudently and, oftentimes, find yourself heading into the end of the year sitting on money you’ve held back in order to be safe. Now as you’re creating your budget for the upcoming year, someone in finance is seeing that you haven’t spent your entire 2015 budget yet. So then the questions start coming about why you need the same amount of money – or more – for the coming year if you didn’t use your full 2015 budget.

Having remaining money in your budget heading into the end of the year is not necessarily a bad thing, but you are most likely faced with a “use it or lose it” proposition. So, what’s a person to do? Splurge on a bigger holiday party for your team? That’s never a bad idea, but probably something that will get met with more than a few questions from your boss.

Use It: Redesign Your Company’s Website

Now might be a good time to take a look at your website and see if it’s due for a redesign, refresh or a complete overhaul. When it comes to priority in most companies, websites tend to get neglected until they are so outdated that they almost hurt your business.

student-849821_640With that said, did you know 61 percent of global internet users research products online before shopping (Interconnected World: Shopping and Personal Finance, 2012)? If your brand is not presented well when researched by potential buyers, you could be losing sales!

What better way to enhance your website as a selling tool for your business than to give it the redesign it deserves in order to capitalize on it in the 2016 fiscal year?

What better way to show your website you care about it and want it to look and function as good as possible heading into 2016 than by giving it the TLC it deserves.

Use It: Enhance Your Digital Marketing

If your website has been updated in the past two years, maybe it makes more sense to put the remainder of your 2015 budget and a section of your 2016 budget toward a digital marketing strategy.

Digital marketing and SEO not only helps drive more qualified traffic to your website, but it also helps convert more customers by nurturing prospects and leads through the buying cycle.

By implementing a strong digital marketing strategy, you’ll be able to reach your target buyers, regardless of location, and truly utilize your website as an online storefront.

Not to mention, digital marketing helps your sales team close deals faster!
